SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) - A certified nursing assistant at a Massachusetts nursing facility has been convicted by a judge of raping a patient with dementia.

The Republican newspaper (https://bit.ly/2oCwx37 ) reports that 27-year-old Parkpoom Seesangrit (park-POOM’ see-SAN’-grit) was convicted Wednesday in a jury-waived trial in Hampden Superior Court. Sentencing is scheduled for Tuesday.

Prosecutors said that Seesangrit digitally raped the 69-year-old woman while changing her at the East Longmeadow Skilled Nursing Center in May 2014. They say he chose to change her even though the facility had a policy of not permitting men to render such care to women patients.

Seesangrit testified in his own defense that he was changing and cleaning the woman, but denied a doing anything inappropriate.

He is being held pending sentencing.
