HOOKERTON, N.C. (AP) - State and local officials say an inmate in a Greene County prison attacked four correctional officers while he was being moved.

N.C. Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Pam Walker told local media outlets that 40-year-old Freddie Pickett used a homemade metal weapon against the officers at Maury Correctional Institution. Greene County Sheriff Lemmie Smith says the assault happened as Pickett was being moved by the officers.

Walker said none of the officers were seriously hurt, although a captain was sent to an area hospital, where he was treated and released.

Walker said Pickett, who was serving time for second-degree murder, faces multiple felony charges.

Last Sunday, a correctional officer at Maury was hospitalized after being assaulted and stabbed by two inmates. Both inmates have been charged in the incident.
