IRONDEQUOIT, N.Y. (AP) - A 14-year-old western New York boy has died from injuries suffered two weeks ago when he was hit by a car while walking to school.

The family of Michael Lynch posted a statement online saying the teen died Thursday with his mother, father and brother at his side.

Authorities say the teen was crossing a road in the Monroe County town of Irondequoit (uh-RAHN’-duh-kwoyt) on the morning of March 30 when he was hit by a vehicle. He was headed to Irondequoit High School, where he was in his freshman year.

The teen was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, when he died Thursday afternoon.

Hundreds of people gathered Thursday night in heart of the Rochester suburb for a candle-light vigil in Michael’s honor.
