MARION, N.C. (AP) - A wildfire is growing in the mountains of western North Carolina but firefighters say they are making progress in controlling the flames.

The U.S. Forest Service told local media Thursday the fire in McDowell County has burned more than 2 square miles.

There have been no injuries.

Firefighters say they have a solid containment line on the north side of the Dobson Knob fire. There are concerns the fire could spread south, even though there is a containment line there, too.

Officials told a community meeting in Marion on Thursday it appeared the fire was started by people but they have not determined whether the blaze reported Sunday was the work of an arsonist.

No evacuations are planned.

Officials hope to have the fire contained Saturday and extinguished next week.
