GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) - A woman who claimed she was owed damages from the Deepwater Horizon spill is heading to prison.

The Sun Herald reports (https://bit.ly/2ousFPF ) that Vanna Nguyen Ly, also known as Van Thi Nguyen, was sentenced Wednesday to 18 months in prison. She also must pay $30,000 in restitution.

Ly put in a claim for $150,000 in oil-spill recovery money following the 2010 Deepwater Horizon explosion. She claimed she was the manager of a Holiday Inn at the time and presented pay stubs, tax documents and a letter verifying her employment. However, Ly was not an employee of the hotel at the time and the documents were false.

U.S. District Judge Sul Ozerden is allowing Ly to remain free on bond until she reports to prison.
