ST. MARYS, Ga. (AP) - Two full-sized replicas of ships that sailed with explorer Christopher Columbus to the Americas have landed in coastal Georgia.

The Brunswick News reports (https://bit.ly/2oviRVE ) ships modeled on the Pinta and the Nina have docked in St. Marys and are open for public tours Saturday through Monday. The vessels were built by The Columbus Federation, which describes them as sailing museums that accurately depict life at sea more than 500 years ago.

Stephen Sanger, captain of the Nina, has a crew of about 15 who spend 10 months a year making port visits. He says most visitors are surprised by how small the ships are. The Nina measures only 50 feet long.
