DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - The Downtown Farmers’ Market in Des Moines is set to begin a new season early next month.

The popular farmers’ market announced its list of nearly 300 vendors earlier this week. The list includes 97 farmers, producers and growers, 25 vendors selling baked goods, nine local wine producers, five artisanal cheesemakers and 59 food artisans and gourmet food producers. This year’s list includes 47 new vendors.

The Downtown Farmers’ Market began in 1976 with just 15 vendors. This year’s season begins on May 6. The market, which spans nine city blocks, is open every Saturday morning through Oct. 28.
