FRESNO, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say a 16-year-old boy shot and critically wounded by a California police officer was linked to a shooting a day earlier that led to the death of another teenager.

Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer says the 16-year-old and his 17-year-old brother are suspected of shooting at a car that crashed on Friday. The driver was killed. Officials didn’t immediately say if he died from the crash or a bullet fired into the vehicle.

Passengers told detectives they had argued earlier with the two brothers.

Dyer says the 16-year-old ran from officers who went to question him Saturday. He says the officer opened fire when the teen made movements toward his waistband and led him to believe there was a weapon.

The Fresno Bee reports (https://bit.ly/2oDyKuX) police are searching Sunday for the 17-year-old brother.
