BEAUFORT, S.C. (AP) - Restoration has begun on the South Carolina home that was the setting of “The Big Chill” and “The Great Santini.”

The Island Packet of Hilton Head reports (https://bit.ly/2ogoxC3) the Tidalholm property in Beaufort recently sold for $1.76 million to John Tashjian, a New York City developer.

The contractor hired to renovate the home built in 1853 says minor work, such as removing overgrown trees, has begun. Contractor Beekman Webb says more extensive renovations will begin in May and are likely to take about a year.

He says Tashjian plans to live in the home part-time when renovations are complete and allow community nonprofits to use it when he’s not there.

The 7,400-square-foot house located along the Beaufort River was first listed in 2013 for $4.5 million.
