PHOENIX (AP) - A Wittmann man who fled during his drug smuggling trial and was arrested after his conviction has been sentenced to more than 17 years in prison.

The Arizona Attorney General’s Office announced Monday that 44-year-old Patrick Pina received a prison term of 17 years and six months.

A jury found him guilty for the sale of dangerous drugs, money laundering, possession of methamphetamine and possession of marijuana.

Last October 2016, state prosecutors sought the public’s assistance in locating Pina.

Two months later, the Maricopa County Sheriff’s deputies arrested him at a house in Peoria.

Deputies conducted an undercover purchase of a methamphetamine from Pina at his Wittmann home in March 2016.

A search warrant served later turned up meth, marijuana and drug scales along with a gun and a ledger.
