SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) - Several Spartanburg businesses are holding fundraisers for the family of a police officer who died from injuries suffered in a motorcycle crash.

The Spartanburg Herald-Journal reports (https://bit.ly/2oRmBTn) the funeral for Officer Jason Gregory Harris is planned for Wednesday morning.

An online GoFundMe campaign had raised nearly $12,000 as of Tuesday morning. The proceeds of the campaign and the business fundraisers will go to the 39-year-old officer’s wife and three daughters.

Harris, who had been with the police department since 2004, became a downtown officer in 2014. As part of that role, he forged relationships with many of the participating local business owners.

The Spartanburg Police Department also has established the Jason Gregory Harris Memorial Family Trust to accept donations.

Harris died April 13 after the crash two days earlier.
