LEONARDTOWN, Md. (AP) - Authorities say a school bus caught fire in southern Maryland, but no one was injured.

The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement that it happened Tuesday morning in the Leonardtown area.

Officials say the bus was full of students headed to Leonardtown High School when the engine compartment began to smoke. The driver pulled over in front of Leonardtown Middle School and evacuated the bus before it caught fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
