New York Mayor Bill de Blasio said Wednesday that the pressure is mounting on President Trump to release his tax returns, especially if he wants to make tax reform his next big policy move.

“If he wants to really try for a tax reform, he’s really going to tie one hand behind his back,” Mr. de Blasio said on CNN’s “New Day.”

The Democratic mayor said that without knowing Mr. Trump’s own interests, it’ll be hard to get Democrats to work with him on tax reform.

“How can he tell the American people how he wants to change their tax code when we can’t even tell how it would affect him?”

Mr. de Blasio said that Mr. Trump’s non-political, business background made releasing his tax returns even more important than for past presidents.

“This president is a businessman with interests around the country and obviously exceptional interest in Russia,” Mr. de Blasio said. “We need to know, does Russia have something over him?”

Mr. de Blasioreleased his own tax returns Tuesday in a tweet aimed at the president saying, “See President Trump? It’s not that hard” with a picture of the return statement.
