NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (AP) - New Brunswick is switching to digital parking permits.

The parking authority will scan license plates to determine if a vehicle has permission to park in a neighborhood, beginning June 1. Decals and hang tags will no longer be needed.

Parking permits can be obtained online after May 1.

Officials say residents will be able to manage their accounts online and the system greatly reduces the possibility of misuse.
