Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez said Wednesday he’s “confident” that Democrats will take the hotly contested Georgia 6th Congressional District in the June 20 runoff.

Mr. Perez said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” that he believes millennial engagement combined with organization will push Democratic candidate Jon Ossoff to victory in that district.

“He’s already at 49 percent of the vote,” Mr. Perez said. “There’s a heck of a lot of energy out there.”

Mr. Perez is currently traveling around the country with Vermont Sen. Bernard Sanders as part of a reboot effort for the party after former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s stunning loss in November. Mr. Perez says he’s encouraged by what he’s seen on the tour so far, and that he hopes the Georgia race will be the first in a series of victories leading to the 2018 midterms.

“We gotta get back to basics,” Mr. Perez said. “We’ve gotta get a 50-state strategy.”
