BELLEFONTE, Pa. (AP) - A judge has ordered a Pennsylvania dentist to stand trial on charges he raped a patient after a root canal.
Wade Newman is charged with rape, sexual assault and kidnapping.
The Centre Daily Times (https://bit.ly/2oZ6Rhh ) reports 47-year-old Newman, of Bellefonte, drove the woman to and from the Oct. 18 procedure after she told him she had a fear of dental work. She alleges he brought her home after the procedure, instead of to her mother’s house as she requested, and assaulted her.
Newman’s attorneys sought to have the charge of kidnapping dismissed because the victim consented to the ride. They also argued to have the sexual assault charge dismissed.
Newman is currently out after posting $1 million bail. He is barred from practicing dentistry by conditions set by his bail.
