SALISBURY, Vt. (AP) - Vermont police say one person is dead and two others are seriously injured after a two-vehicle head-on collision after a driver crossed into the opposing lane of traffic to pass another vehicle.

The crash occurred as one of the drivers, Shawn Newell, was attempting to pass a slower moving vehicle driving northbound. Christina Walker and her passenger Brian Kerr were travelling southbound, and crashed into Newell’s vehicle when he crossed into the southbound lane in an attempt to pass the car in front of him. Newell and Walker were taken to a local hospital for treatment for their injuries. Kerr died due to injuries suffered in the collision.

The investigation remains active. Anyone with information is requested to contact the New Haven Barracks of the Vermont State Police.
