DOVER, Del. (AP) - Dover police say a man who drove away from officers after giving them a fake name turned out to be driving a stolen vehicle.

Police said in a statement Monday that they’ve recovered the stolen SUV. They’re still looking for the driver, who’s been identified as 24-year-old Christopher Sudler.

Police say officers stopped Sudler late Friday night for a registration violation. Police say Sudler claimed not to have any ID and gave a name that turned out to belong to a man who’s in prison. The officer checked the name and was heading back toward the vehicle when police say Sudler drove off. The officer didn’t chase him in the interest of public safety.

Sudler is wanted on a variety of charges.
