BOONEVILLE, Ark. (AP) - Authorities say Booneville’s police chief was injured in a shooting while responding to a call about a suicidal person.

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette (https://bit.ly/2oJPEET ) reports police chief Albert Brown was shot early Wednesday morning. Logan County sheriff Boyd Hicks says Brown was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition.

Hicks says Brown and other officers responded to the call at a Booneville home. According to Hicks, a man armed with a long gun and a handgun walked around the corner of the home and fired at the officers, striking Brown in the leg.

Hicks says police did not return fire but were able to tackle the suspect, whom Brown arrested.

The Booneville Police Department and the Arkansas State Police are investigating the incident.
