RIVERTON, Wyo. (AP) - Authorities have killed a mountain lion after it was sighted a second time this week near homes and an elementary school in the central Wyoming city of Riverton.

Brian DeBolt, of the Wyoming Game and Fish Department, says the decision to kill the animal Wednesday was made for public safety.

The Ranger reports (https://bit.ly/2oNtNwo ) that the lion was spotted by a resident under the deck of a residence Wednesday.

DeBolt says it’s extremely unusual behavior for a lion to be in a city during the middle of the day.

He described the lion as a relatively thin female that was probably two to three years old. It will be sent to a lab in Laramie for testing to determine whether it had any health issues.
