RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Flooding continues in eastern North Carolina after the storms that dumped up to 8 inches of rain earlier this week.

Schools are closed in Edgecombe County again Friday.

The National Weather Service has flood warnings in effect in 15 counties in central and eastern North Carolina.

Forecasters say flooding is occurring along the Cape Fear River in Bladen, Duplin and Pender counties. The Tar River is flooding in Greenville, Rocky Mount and Tarboro. The American Red Cross has a shelter open in Tarboro.

The Roanoke River is flooding at Roanoke Rapids and the Neuse River is bringing flooding to Goldsboro, Kinston and Smithfield.

The Lumber River is also flooding in Lumberton.
