Sen. James Lankford said Friday that although diplomacy is the first option for handling North Korea, the U.S. needs to have a military as well.

“Diplomacy is much more effective if it has a military option behind it as well,” said the Oklahoma Republican on Fox News.

Mr. Lankford, a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, also said he disagreed with some of his colleagues who said the briefing they received from the White House on North Korea wasn’t very informative.

“Many of the things that we talk about on the intelligence committee, for the first time, were laid out to many members of the Senate as well,” he said.
