JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - A Columbia, Missouri, woman faces up to three decades in federal prison now that she’s admitted she embezzled more than $231,000 from the credit union where she worked.

Sixty-two-year-old Debra Wenger on Thursday waived her right to a grand jury and pleaded guilty in Jefferson City to an embezzlement charge.

Authorities say Wenger began working for Shelter Insurance Companies in 1972 and transferred to Shelter Insurance Federal Credit Union in 1988. It’s in that job that she was a teller and administrative assistant, assuming all accounting responsibilities.

An external auditor discovered the misappropriation of funds in February 2016.

Wenger’s sentencing date was not immediately set.
