NEWRY, Maine (AP) - Sunday River is poised to replace a chairlift that failed last summer.

The ski resort announced that it’s going to spend $2.1 million on a triple-chairlift built at the same location as the original Spruce Peak Triple. Officials say it will utilize a conveyor system to make it easier for skiers to board.

Officials say the new lift will be faster than the old one, taking skiers to the top in 8 minutes. Construction begins in May.

The ski resort was without the lift during the past season. The lift toppled over when the foundation separated from the mountaintop following heavy rain. No one was hurt because it happened in the summer when the lift was not in operation.
