DUBUQUE, Iowa (AP) - A judge has sentenced a 19-year-old Dubuque man to life in prison without parole after his conviction of first-degree murder in the killing of a man at a Dubuque trailer park.
The Telegraph Herald reports (https://bit.ly/2nQsGNj ) Judge Thomas Bitter sentenced Imere D. Hall to the life term despite defense lawyers’ argument that the sentence was unconstitutional for someone Hall’s age.
Hall also was sentenced to 25 years for first-degree robbery and ordered to pay $150,000 restitution to the heirs of Collin A. Brown.
Prosecutors say Hall and two other men broke into the trailer of the 21-year-old Brown last April, intending to rob him. Brown was shot trying to escape the three.
Halls’ attorneys say they will appeal the sentence.
