HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Immigrant rights, business and labor groups say they’re planning to hold a large rally to show support for immigrants.

The coalition predicted Monday that thousands will gather for the “Here to Stay” event, planned on the north steps of the State Capitol from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on April 29.

It will be part of a national mobilization of immigrants and supporters to express concern over Republican President Donald Trump’s immigrant deportation policies.

David McGuire, executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Connecticut, says the Trump administration’s immigration directives are “tearing families apart.” He says they “threaten to spread injustice and discrimination.”

Trump has made immigration a key issue in his administration and has promised to deport “bad dudes” living in the United States illegally.
