FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) - A northern Colorado woman has acknowledged lying to police about the death of her infant daughter.
The Fort Collins Coloradoan reports (https://goo.gl/clhKcT ) 23-year-old Alexa Coria pleaded guilty Monday to trying to influence a public servant. She is scheduled to be sentenced May 22.
Police say Coria’s ex-boyfriend, Juan Canales-Hernandez, fatally hit 11-month-old RaeLynn Martinez with a chair in September, and Coria lied about how the child was hurt in an effort to keep him from going to prison.
Canales-Hernandez is facing several charges in the baby’s death, including first-degree murder and child abuse.
The newspaper reports the child’s death happened while Canales-Hernandez was on parole for seriously injuring a 2-year-old boy in 2013.
