NATCHITOCHES, La. (AP) - An off-duty Natchitoches Parish sheriff’s deputy has died from injuries suffered when his pickup collided with a car that had stopped and was preparing to turn.

Louisiana State Police say 62-year-old Moses C. Baines, of Clarence, died at the scene of Tuesday’s 9 p.m. accident. The crash happened on Louisiana Highway 6 near Payne Drive.

Troopers say Baines‘ truck was headed east when he hit a car driven by 21-year-old Crystal R. Smith, of Natchitoches. Smith and her juvenile passenger suffered minor injuries and were treated at Natchitoches Parish Hospital.

Troopers say all three people involved were properly restrained.

KTBS-TV reports (https://bit.ly/2obe3GO ) Baines had been employed with the sheriff’s office for a year. He was assigned to the corrections division.
