PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - The Portland Sea Dogs are postponing their first game of the year because of rain, days after battling heavy snow.

Team officials had reported that all of the snow that fell on April Fools’ Day had been cleared and that the field was in good shape for Thursday’s Opening Day. But weather still wasn’t willing to cooperate, so they’re moving the game to May 5, when it will be part of a single admission double header.

The Opening Day game will now be Friday at 6 p.m.

Weather remained a question mark on Wednesday when the Sea Dogs announced that they hoped to still play as scheduled. The temperature at game time was projected to be a chilly 39 degrees and there’s a forecast of rain, possibly heavy.
