SAN BRUNO, Calif. (AP) - Detectives investigating a report of a missing person in the San Francisco Bay Area came across remains of what appeared to be a dismembered human body.

The Mercury News in San Jose reports (https://bayareane.ws/2oN4IFT ) the discovery was made in the city of San Bruno on Thursday morning.

San Bruno Police Cmdr. Geoff Caldwell says police are investigating the incident as a homicide and have arrested 50-year-old David Stubblefield as a suspect.

Caldwell says it is not yet known whether the body is the missing person. The identity of the missing person is not being released pending further investigation.

The newspaper reports that a public records search shows Stubblefield lives on the block where police found the remains. Police did not say if they found the body in his home. It was not immediately known if Stubblefield has an attorney.
