ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - A former northern New Mexico police chief has pleaded no contest to charges stemming from the sexual assault of a young woman who was his custody.

KRQE-TV (https://goo.gl/buBJ4Q ) reports that former Jemez (HAY’-mehs) Springs Police Chief Shane Harger pleaded no contest Tuesday in state District Court in Albuquerque to false imprisonment, battery and tampering with evidence.

New Mexico State Police said Harger pulled over an 18-year-old woman in 2014, attacked her t hen threatened her telling her not to tell anyone.

Harger faces up to nine years when sentenced April 15.

A plea agreement prohibits Harger from every working as a law enforcement officer again.
