PASADENA, Calif. (AP) - A man who set fire to an illegal boarding home in Pasadena, killing two men, has been convicted of arson and first-degree murder.
Los Angeles County prosecutors say a jury deliberated for less than an hour Friday before convicting 54-year-old Garth Allen Robbins.
He’s now facing life without chance of parole.
Prosecutors say Robbins and 17 other men were living at the unlicensed home in 2012 when he doused his room with gasoline and set it on fire.
Two men died.
Authorities say it doesn’t appear that Robbins targeted the victims.
The San Gabriel Valley Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/2ojMD1k) that Robbins said he started the blaze because he “wanted his life to go away.”
Homeowner Jeannette Broussard pleaded guilty in 2014 to violating city codes and was fined about $6,000.
