MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - Vermont’s annual trout season is getting under way.

Saturday marks the opening of the season and biologists say that despite extended cold weather across the state in recent weeks, anglers can be successful early in the season.

Biologist Bret Lagago say anglers may want to fish in small to medium, low-elevation rivers and streams where the water warms more quickly.

He says that finding water that isn’t too muddy can also be key and slowing your lure or bait retrieval will help tempt sluggish trout into biting.
