SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A rural Utah county has lost hundreds of thousands of dollars in revenue since its jail was emptied of all 80 inmates due to a state investigation into allegations of inmate mistreatment.

The Deseret News reports (https://bit.ly/2oTgQVZ) the inmates were moved in February from the Daggett County Jail to various jails across the state.

The Utah Department of Corrections relocated the inmates after receiving complaints of misconduct against jail staff. Two corrections officers have been placed on administration leave, while county, state and federal officials investigate.

Meanwhile, Daggett County is losing funds the state pays it to house inmates at the now-empty facility.

Jail spokeswoman Susie Potter says the loss has amounted to more than $200,000 so far.

It’s still unclear when the county jail will be repopulated.
