PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Police say a confrontation that started near an affordable housing complex in Providence has led to a fatal shooting.

Maj. David Lapatin said 34-year-old Mackensie Irons was shot and killed at about 9 p.m. Monday.

It appears Irons was near the Chad Brown public housing complex when he got into an argument.

Officers say the scene was chaotic upon their arrival and they had to weave through dozens of people to get to the victim. He was taken to Rhode Island Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

No arrests have been announced.
