VANCOUVER, Wash. (AP) - A former Clark County Jail inmate is suing the sheriff’s office and its medical provider after he says he was denied adequate medical attention for blisters created by his jail-issued sandals.
The Columbian reports (https://bit.ly/2wi92go ) 46-year-old John A. O’Keefe had been incarcerated in January 2016 for about 19 days. The lawsuit claims O’Keefe sought medical attention for the blisters three times. It claims he was ignored the first time, bandaged the second time and then bandaged again but denied antibiotic ointment the third time.
The suit states O’Keefe’s toes were swollen and his left ankle was painful by the time he left the jail. He went to an emergency room three days after being released and was treated for cellulitis and sepsis.
O’Keefe seeks a payment amount to be determined at trial and attorney fees.
