DOVER, Del. (AP) - Department of Correction officials say nine workers at Delaware’s maximum-security prison have been suspended after an incident involving an inmate being taken from his housing unit to the infirmary.

A DOC spokeswoman said Thursday that officials are conducting an investigation to determine whether a violation of department policies or procedures occurred as the inmate was being taken to the infirmary for a medical inspection. She provided no details about the incident.

The nine staff members assigned to the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center were placed on administrative leave.

Spokeswoman Jayme Gravelle said the DOC takes alleged misconduct seriously, and that reported incidents are thoroughly investigated.

In February, a guard at the prison was killed and three other staffers taken hostage during an inmate uprising.
