CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (AP) - Federal prosecutors in West Virginia say an inmate who fatally stabbed another inmate has been convicted.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office said in a statement that 36-year-old Kevin Marquette Bellinger, an inmate held in Hazelton, was found guilty on murder charges by a jury in federal court on Wednesday.

Bellinger was one of two inmates involved in the October 2007 killing of Jesse Harris. The inmates stabbed Harris with homemade knives in a planned attack.

The two confronted Harris while a group of inmates were being moved back to their cells from the recreation yard. A correctional officer responded in less than one minute, but Harris was stabbed multiple times before the attackers fled.

At the time, Bellinger was serving a sentence of 15 years to life for 2000 assault.
