VICTORVILLE, Calif. (AP) - The Latest on the death of a 12-year-old girl who was shot in her home (all times local):

1:40 p.m.

Authorities are looking for a gunman who walked up to a Southern California home and opened fire, killing a 12-year-old girl.

San Bernardino County sheriff’s officials say Makiya Walls was inside a Victorville home when shots smashed through the front window and struck her Wednesday night.

She died at a hospital.

The man fled in a white, possibly four-door sedan.

Her mother wept Thursday as she described her daughter, calling her smart, witty, respectful, caring, and “the most innocent child with the biggest heart.”

Investigators haven’t released a motive for the attack.


5:59 a.m.

Southern California authorities say a 12-year-old girl has died after being struck in an apparent drive-by shooting.

San Bernardino County sheriff’s officials say the girl was inside a residence in Victorville when she was hit by several bullets Wednesday night.

Neighbors told reporters they heard multiple gunshots.

The child was transported in grave condition to a trauma center, where she died.

Investigators have not released suspect descriptions or said if the home was targeted.
