ARCO, Idaho (AP) - A California woman died and a North Dakota man was injured after their motorcycle collided with a deer in south-central Idaho near Craters of the Moon National Monument and Preserve.

Idaho State Police say 29-year-old Alexandria J. Porterfield of Highland, California, died at the scene of the crash at about 11:30 p.m. Monday.

Police say 30-year-old David A. Smart of Minot, North Dakota, was transported to Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello.

Police say Porterfield and Smart were ejected from the motorcycle in the collision while driving northbound on U.S. Highway 93. Authorities say Porterfield was wearing a helmet and Smart was not.
