SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (AP) - Three people have been charged with the murder of a 12-year-old girl who was shot to death in her Victorville home.

San Bernardino County prosecutors filed charges Tuesday against gang member Anthony Pitts of Adelanto, who is alleged to have fired the gun. Also charged are Danielle Cummings of Apple Valley and Reyna Mercado of San Bernardino.

They remain jailed and it’s unclear whether they have attorneys.

Makiya Walls was killed Aug. 9. Witnesses said a gunman walked up to her home and opened fire with a shotgun through a window.

Authorities say the attack stemmed from a months-long feud with the girl’s mother and the child wasn’t the target.

The suspects are charged with murder and shooting at an inhabited dwelling. They could face life in prison if convicted.
