SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) - Fire officials say a man and two children died after a fire quickly engulfed a mobile home in San Jose.

San Jose Fire Capt. Mike Van Elgort says the mobile home caught fire Tuesday afternoon and by the time firefighters arrived minutes later, the front of the house had collapsed.

Elgort says a man, a boy and a girl were found in the front part of the home. He says one of the children is the man’s grandchild and the other is a neighbor or possibly a cousin.

He says neighbors tried to rescue the man and the children and used garden hoses to try and put out the blaze but that there was no hope to rescue them.

Elgort says the origin and cause of the fire is under investigation.
