WILSON, N.C. (AP) - A 29-year-old man is accused of fatally shooting four people in a North Carolina home last Christmas Eve.
The Wilson County Sheriff’s Office announced Tuesday that Dereck Harris is charged with first-degree murder for the deaths of 54-year-old Tammy Pearce, her fiance Selby Outland, her son Paul Pearce and his girlfriend Dominique Privette.
Sheriff Calvin Woodard says the shootings were over a drug debt between Harris and one of the victims. He declined to be specific. Woodard says nothing was stolen from the home.
Officers arrested Harris on Jan. 12 after finding him hiding out in a home in Wilson. He’s been in prison since pleading guilty to misdemeanor hit and run, eluding arrest and probation violation.
Prison records do not list an attorney for Harris.
