MINOT, N.D. (AP) - A Dunseith man was taken to a hospital after an armed standoff in a highway ditch in the Minot area that lasted 3 ½ hours.

The Ward County Sheriff’s Office says officers responded to a report of a man walking in a ditch along the U.S. Highway 83 bypass and yelling at people about 8:15 p.m. Monday.

Authorities say that as officers approached, the man brandished a handgun and threatened to shoot himself. Officers closed the area to traffic, and SWAT team negotiators talked with the man until he surrendered without incident about 11:45 p.m. and was hospitalized.

No one was hurt. The sheriff’s office says there are no charges pending.
