BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - An Alabama man has been accused of stabbing a teen girl during an argument over sneakers.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office says in a statement that on Aug. 7 a deputy saw a man, later identified as 27-year-old Brenton Tate, running from a Birmingham home with a knife. The deputy captured Tate and returned him to the home.

Police say a 15-year-old girl had loaned Tate, who is her mother’s boyfriend, a pair of sneakers. Tate allegedly refused to return the sneakers to the girl, and during an ensuing argument stabbed her in the arm.

The girl was treated at a hospital for serious injuries that were not life-threatening.

Tate was arrested and faces several charges, including domestic violence assault 2nd degree. It’s unclear if he has an attorney.
