ANDERSON, S.C. (AP) - Three people have been charged with helping a South Carolina man avoid prison.

The State Law Enforcement Division said in a news release that three Anderson County residents were arrested Tuesday and charged with helping a criminal avoid prison for more than 10 years.

Court records show that 68-year-old Thomas Ferguson pleaded guilty to third-degree criminal sexual conduct and was sentenced to more than four years in prison in 2006. Ferguson was supposed to report to prison 10 days later and never did.

He was arrested in Greenville last month.

Three of his relatives are charged.

Ferguson’s wife, 61-year-old Debra Ferguson of Anderson, his brother, 67-year-old Robert Ferguson of Iva and his cousin, 58-year-old Alvin Burdette of Anderson have been arrested. It was not known if they have attorneys.
