LIVINGSTON, Mont. (AP) - Officials in south-central Montana say a Park County jail inmate who was found unconscious in his cell after apparently hanging himself with a piece of jail clothing has died.

Sheriff Scott Hamilton tells the Livingston Enterprise (bit.ly/2fL8SLo) that 36-year-old Joseph Anthony Kuban of Bozeman was found in his cell on Aug. 10. He was taken to the hospital in Livingston and later to Billings Clinic where he died Tuesday afternoon.

Kuban had been arrested on Aug. 5 after leading law enforcement officers on a pursuit that ended near Emigrant. Kuban faced a felony DUI charge along with fleeing a peace officer, reckless driving, driving without a license and criminal endangerment.

The Department of Justice’s Division of Criminal Investigations is investigating.

A coroner’s inquest will be held because Kuban died in law enforcement custody.
