LEAKESVILLE, Miss. (AP) - The publisher of a weekly Mississippi newspaper has died.

Freeman Funeral Home says 78-year-old Leola Turner, the publisher of the Greene County Herald, died Thursday at a local hospital after what the newspaper describes as an extended illness.

Turner’s funeral will be Saturday with burial to follow in McLeod-Magnolia Cemetery in Leakesville.

Her husband, John Turner, who died in 2014, had been the longtime owner of the southeast Mississippi newspaper. Leola Turner is survived by her daughter, Cheri Culpepper, and son, George Russell Turner. He is the newspaper’s editor.
