MADISON HEIGHTS, Va. (AP) - A Virginia training center that remains on track to close in 2020 has a new director.

The News & Advance reports a Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services statement says Dick Roberts will take over the Central Virginia Training Center from an acting director Aug. 25.

A 2011 Department of Justice settlement will see the closure of all but one of Virginia’s regional training centers, which provides residential care for people with severe intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Roberts is the person-centered support director at the Southeastern Virginia Training Center, the only state facility that will remain open. Roberts says he’s coming in to handle the resident discharges and transitions involved in CVTC’s scheduled closure.

State data says CVTC had 144 residents as of June, a 67 percent reduction from 2011.
