NORWICH, N.Y. (AP) - State police say they’ve arrested a New York man on a first-degree murder charge in the slaying of an 11-year-old girl inside a rural upstate home.
Troopers say Wednesday that 36-year-old James Brower was arrested Tuesday, two days after Jacelyn O’Connor was found dead in Brower’s home in the Chenango County town of Norwich, 45 miles (72 kilometers) southeast of Syracuse.
Troopers say they were called to the home late Sunday morning for a report of a girl in cardiac arrest. Police say the girl, from Morris in neighboring Otsego County, was dead when they arrived at the scene. Police aren’t saying how Jacelyn was killed.
Brower is being held in the county jail without bail. He’s due back in court Thursday morning. Authorities didn’t know if he has a lawyer yet.
